This year, the team led by Byron Stone and Jane Tillman will go north to Hill County and see what we can find there during peak migration. If the bird gods smile on us, we could get 80 plus species. We will listen for Upland Sandpipers, check many of the eBird hotspots and watch for migrating raptors, shorebirds and warblers. Newly arrived Yellow-billed Cuckoos and Painted Buntings should be in evidence, and orioles should be on the move. We will bird early until late. Sunrise is at 6:47 a.m. and we will most likely try earlier than that for Chucks and owls. Sunset is at 8:06 p.m. Byron would like to add that Hillsboro is the closest place to Austin where you can get Braum’s Ice Cream, and a pitstop there is in your future. It is strategically located to get those sought-after city birds. The team is limited to 16 total. If you are working on your county lists, and want to see if there is an open spot, please contact Jane.

ABOUT Birdathon 2020

Birdathon is Travis Audubon’s most entertaining way to engage in our mission to protect native birds! Teams of birders compete to see as many birds during one trip as possible. All registration fees and team donations benefit Travis Audubon. All skill levels are welcome to start a team, join an existing one, or compete as an individual. Anyone can join a team or create their own!
