Team Gone Pishing is back for another exciting Birdathon adventure! We are venturing out of our comfort zone slightly and will be visiting the Lower Rio Grande Valley over the weekend of April 18. We will be looking for migrating birds such as warblers, buntings, orioles, and shorebirds as well as resident birds. Think Fulvous Whistling-Ducks, Plain Chachalacas, Groove-billed Anis, Buff-bellied Hummingbirds, White-tailed Hawks, Gray Hawks, Red-crowned Parrots, Great Kiskadees, and Green Jays to name a few! We are going to relax slightly this year and take a little more time to enjoy the birds instead of rushing from one location to the next. Given the diversity in the Valley, we will still be competing for the most species seen within 24 hours. Maybe we’ll even beat our record from last year (138 species). And as usual, we plan to raise serious money for Travis Audubon and compete in the most money raised category. We will be trying to top our record from last year (over $8600). We’re each donating at least $200 and asking friends, family and anyone else we can think of to support our efforts to raise money for the best bird education and conservation organization in the state. Birdathon is Travis Audubon’s most entertaining way to engage in our mission to protect native birds! Teams of birders compete to see as many birds during one trip as possible. All registration fees and team donations benefit Travis Audubon. All skill levels are welcome to start a team, join an existing one, or compete as an individual. Anyone can join a team or create their own!
