Graduates of Travis Audubon's Introduction to Birds and Birding class will head to the central Texas coast to explore the Corpus Christi area. We're going the weekend of April 15 & 16. We'll drive down on Friday, April 14, and possibly do some birding on that day. Very likely our official Birdathon will be Saturday, April 15, and then we'll bird until about mid-afternoon on Sunday and then come home. We will be trying to see as many species in 24 hours as possible, but even though we will be trying to rack up the species, we'll still take time to talk about ID. It will be like a Birding 102 field trip on steroids. This is a little earlier than the typical peak of migration but we will still see migrants, and we may see early migrants that are usually gone by late April. Just like High Island and the Upper Texas Coast, the Corpus area is a great place to experience migration. Some of the great locations include: Blucher Park, Rose Hill Cemetery, Hazel Bazemore, Tule Lake, Pollywog Pond, Hans A Suter WMA. And then there is Port Aransas for many more locations.

Team members are: Birdie White, Cindy and Gus Cannon, Deborah Sharp, Denise Dailey, Michael Sims, Michael's mom, Wendy Harte and me. All team members are donating $200 to our team and we're also asking friends, family, co-workers and anyone else we can think of to sponsor our team. We want to raise at least $5000 for Travis Audubon to support all the great programs Travis Audubon provides. We will be trying to see the most number of species of all Birdathon teams and we'll also be trying to raise the most money. Feel free to help us raise money by making a donation to our team. We would greatly appreciate your support of our team!

ABOUT Birdathon 2017

Birdathon teams are making birding count for conservation! Check out the fundraiser profiles and consider making a contribution that will support wildlife conservation and education.

You can take part too! Birdathon participants plan an afternoon or day of birding and compete individually or as a team to win awards for highest bird species count and highest donations collected. Much like a walkathon, fundraisers collect pledges to raise money for conservation. This friendly competition is open to all levels of birders. If you would like assistance setting up a fundraising page or team of your own, please contact Nancy Sprehn at volunteer@travisaudubon.org or 512-300-2473.
