Walk Description
Join Virginia Rose and Eric Clow for a morning of accessible birding at Mueller’s Southeast Greenway. This urban wetland attracts wintering ducks, sparrows, and the occasional raptor. It's also a great place to practice using your binoculars! We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for Soras and Wilson’s Snipes, maybe even an American Bittern, foraging along the edge of the ponds.
This outing is designed for birders of all abilities and skill levels. All are welcome!
Access Info: We will meet at Gaylord Sackler Memorial Skate Park at the corner of Zach Scott and Manor. There are several van-accessible parking spaces in the parking lot and ample street parking on Tom Miller. Accessible restrooms are available at the parking lot.
We will explore a mix of paved and crushed granite trails, which are fairly level and wide. We will wander for about two hours or until folks get tired. We may walk 1 mile or more. If folks want to continue birding past 11 AM, there are many other accessible trails in the area.
What to Bring: If you can walk, you should wear comfortable shoes. If it’s a cold morning, please dress in layers. It can also get quite sunny, so everyone should bring a hat and sunscreen along with water, binoculars, and/or whatever other birding tools you use. (We will provide loaner binoculars for those who need them.) In the case of inclement weather, we will contact you before 7 AM on the day of the outing with a cancel notice.
Registration for this outing is required and limited to 15 participants (plus additional attendants if you bring someone to help you participate). Please direct questions to Eric Clow at birdcitynews@gmail.com.
