Birdathon: Birding by Kayak on Lady Bird Lake (FULL)

05/10/2026 07:30 AM - 10:00 AM CT

Description

Sunday, May 10, 7:30 AM – 10:00 AM
$50 per person, max. 12 people

Join Wendy Carnegie and Suzanne Kho for a 4-mile kayak paddle tour on Lady Bird Lake. Birding by boat provides a unique opportunity to practice mindful birding in the heart of Austin. We’ll launch from Texas Rowing Center and head west toward Red Bud Isle, listening and looking for kingfishers, warblers, canyon wrens, osprey, cormorants, American coots, ducks, herons, egrets, and other common waterfowl. Kayak rental with life jacket is included in the registration fee. A special thanks to Texas Rowing Center for sponsoring this event!

This is a moderately strenuous paddle. Participants must be able to sit on a dock close to the water, lower themselves into a kayak without assistance, and paddle while seated upright with a life jacket for approximately 2–2.5 hours. This tour may not be suitable for those with mobility limitations or circulation concerns when sitting for extended periods.

For the safety of wildlife and the quality of the experience, pets are not permitted on field trips or bird walks. We appreciate your understanding.
