05/09/2026 09:00 AM - 01:00 PM CT

Description

Hosted by Travis Audubon and Austin Water Center for Environmental Research
Time: 9 AM - 1 PM
Location: Austin Water Center for Environmental Research (2210 FM973, Austin, TX 78725)

Join us in celebrating World Migratory Bird Day at the premier birding location in Travis County, Hornsby Bend! Whether you’re a seasoned birder, a beginner, or looking for a family-friendly outing, this day offers something for everyone—and is free to all. Connect with fellow bird enthusiasts, enjoy birdwatching opportunities, and learn about the fascinating migratory birds passing through our region. Our friends at Sightseer Coffee will have drinks for purchase inspired by some of our favorite birds.

This year's theme is Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter, which highlights the role of public participation in collecting data on migratory bird populations, their habitats, and factors that impact their populations. Learn from our various partners about the work that they are doing to protect birds and other wildlife, and how you can get involved. We'll be joined by Austin Water Wildland Conservation, Birdability, Central Texas Mycological Society, Hill Country Alliance, Native Plant Society of Texas, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Bexar Audubon, Austin Butterfly Forum, and more!

At 10 AM, Dr. Kevin Anderson, Coordinator for Austin Water Center for Environmental Research, will offer a presentation titled "Birds, Birders, and A Place Called Hornsby Bend" in the center's auditorium for anyone who is interested in learning more about the history of birds and birding at Hornsby Bend.

RSVP using the link above – it helps us get a better idea of how many folks to expect. This is a free, come-and-go event with onsite parking. Bring your family, friends, and anyone else in your life who enjoys nature!

For the safety of wildlife and the quality of the experience, pets are not permitted on field trips or bird walks. We appreciate your understanding.
