Walk Description
Sharon Roy and Rene Bartos

Join Rene Bartos and Sharon Roy for our monthly poetry birding event. We start by sharing some printed poetry resources and examples. We bird along a trail where we take time together to notice, listen, watch, and enjoy! Then we gather at picnic tables and write poetry based on what inspired us. We highlight a different poetic form each month for a collaborative learning experience. However, participants can write in whatever poetic form is calling to them on the day of the event. No poetry writing or birding experience is necessary! Participants enjoy the opportunity to share their poetry if they desire in a supportive, encouraging environment, with no pressure.

This walk is open to all birding and poetry writing skill levels. We will have binoculars to lend anyone that needs a pair. Please plan to bring a writing utensil and paper/notebook/journal for the poetry writing portion.

Both Sharon and Rene have birding experience and have taken multiple Travis Audubon classes. Rene has completed the TAS Master Birding class. Sharon is a retired middle school English teacher. She loves encouraging writers of all ages. She writes poetry which she shares at her blog, Pedaling Poet. Both have taken poetry classes and love poetry!

Accessibility: We'll bird along a park trail for 1-2 miles. View the local interactive Birdability map. We welcome all. Contact Sharon at sharonmroy@gmail.com or Rene at rbartosped@gmail.com with any questions.

A reminder email with relevant details will be sent a few days before the field trip to those who register.

We look forward to birding and creating poetry with you!

For the safety of wildlife and the quality of the experience, dogs (other than service animals) are not permitted on field trips or bird walks. We appreciate your understanding.
