Beginner Bird Walk at Mueller

We will meet at the Gaylord Sackler Memorial Skate Park at the corner of Zach Scott and Manor. There will be plenty of parking in the parking lot or along Tom Miller. We will be using the Southeast Greenway trails in the Mueller area, which are fairly level and wide. We will walk approximately 1 1/2 miles. You should wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and binoculars if you have them. Look at your email before you leave for a cancellation if the weather is inclement. You will be contacted before 7:30 am on the day of the walk with a cancel notice.

For the safety of wildlife and the quality of the experience, dogs (other than service animals) are not permitted on field trips or bird walks. We appreciate your understanding.

Laura Tull

Laura is a retired librarian who first learn to bird with her aunt here in Austin back in the 1970s. They went out to Pederanales State Park and spied a Golden-cheeked Warbler. Retirement has been a great boon to this hobby and she hopes to see most of the birds in North America before she has to hang up the binoculars.

 

Kendra Harris

has always been fascinated with the natural world, and became officially hooked on birding after her first Travis Audubon walk at Mueller a few years ago. She was amazed at the variety of water birds that come to Austin each winter, as well as other birds she’d never even heard of, including the Ruby-crowned Kinglet and the Yellow-rumped Warbler. Kendra has taken several Travis Audubon classes and completed the organization’s Master Birder program in Spring 2026. She is excited to continue her growth by sharing her (still quite limited!) knowledge of the many beautiful birds found in Central Texas. She is also passionate about helping new birders learn how to ID birds through a combination of birding by ear and visual keys.
